Retail Development Manager

As Retail Development Manager you will is responsible for leading, driving and executing all new store openings in line with the Apparel Group store network expansion plan. The Apparel Group comprises Bonds, Bonds Kids, Bonds Outlets and Champion Outlets, with over 100 stores in our network (and counting!).

Your role will include:

  • Supporting site selection and business case development as directed by GM Retail, head of Retail Operations, Leasing Manager & Commercial Manager
  • Providing input to decisions around site leasing, lease negotiations, landlord requirements and project management
  • Managing New Store Opening / Refurbishments Project Plan, coordinating with planning, buying, VM, fixtures and store set-up teams
  • Managing the pipeline of store development work (new store, refurbishments and closures)
  • Support the execution and maintenance of our retail network
  • Team management of a Project Coordinator and Assistant Project Manager
  • Management of 3rd Party providers

A day in the life of …

Expect to spend a lot of your time coordinating, planning and liaising with a variety of stakeholders across the business and externally, including Buying & Planning, Marketing, Customer Service, Supply Chain and HR. Your principle accountabilities fall into three areas:

  • New Store Business Cases
    • Contribute to discussions relating to site evaluation, selection & negotiation
    • Contribute to site feasibility and related business cases
    • Business case presentation
    • Coordination of site viewings and visits
  • Project Management & Execution of New Store Openings, Refurbishments and Closures
    • Coordinate all activity relating to opening a new store (keeping on time and on budget)
    • Schedule and coordinate the design & build of a new store and store refurbishments, ensuring effective and brand-fit design and fit out
    • Keeping all stakeholders in the loop regarding New Store Openings, Refurbishments and Closures, including developing and maintaining a Project Plan
    • Ensuring new stores are aligned with our brand sensibility and as per our store grading structure
  • Repairs & Maintenance
    • Provide guidance and support to your team on all repairs and maintenance requests across the store network to ensure works are complaint.

What experience do I have?

We would like to talk to you if you have experience in the project management of new store builds and openings – we have a projected 14 brand new Bonds stores for FY18, plus at least 8-10 refurbs on the cards, which you (with the support from your team) will manage from start to finish. We need someone competent, energetic and focused on achieving goals (as you can see, we have a pretty busy agenda!).

Your resume will include the following:

  • Project and Change Management experience
  • Experience working in a leading Retailer and opening new stores
  • Leadership experience – you will be managing two direct reports
  • Keen negotiator and influencer – this role is highly influential and will see you collaborating closely with a number of stakeholders across our business and externally
  • Attitude and culture fit is crucial for us – you must be a team player, open to new ideas and change, happy to roll with the punches and get your hands dirty when needed: no ivory tower PMs please!
